“Stop” and be Thankful!

2 Nov

Well, it is already November!  In the wake of all that has happened in the US this last week, I think that most of us should be reminded of all the things that we can be thankful for in our lives.  Because this is the month of thankfulness, it is also a good time to “stop” and look around you, and take the time to notice and count our blessings.

Did you notice that I said “stop” and look around you?  I think so often that is part of the problem.  We live in such a fast passed world that we often fail to take the time to “see” what we really have.  There are still people in our world today that do not have a grocery store on the corner or down the street.  In fact they are concerned that they will get food every day to feed themselves or their family.  Because of the effects of Hurricane Sandy, there are people right now in the US who are wondering when they will have a home again, water to drink or food to eat. I could go on and on about all the things that we have that many others would do anything to own or have access to, but this is not about making you feel guilty.

I just want to encourage you to really “stop” all this month to take inventory of your lives.  Yes, there will always be hardships of varying degrees.  I know I have been there.  The fact that I am a paraplegic of 26 years has given me some experience on the matter. But, if you eat three times a day, have a place to sleep, have clothes to wear every day, and you have people around you that love you, then you already have a lot to be thankful about.

I really enjoyed this post. I agree, we live in a fast paced world where stopping to enjoy life isn’t done that often. We need to take time, stop and realize all that we have to be thankful for. 🙂 We also need to take time to enjoy the little things in life!
